Kraken Experience
I created a free account on Kraken, as suggested by some online resources. The process was relatively straightforward, although the verification steps took a bit of time. Once verified, I explored their XMR/ETH trading pair. I noticed that the order book depth was pretty good, which meant I could potentially get a better price by placing limit orders.
ChangeNOW Experience
ChangeNOW was appealing due to its promise of instant conversions. I tested their platform with a small amount of XMR. The process was indeed fast, but I noticed that the exchange rate was slightly less favorable compared to Kraken. The convenience came at a small premium, but it was worth it for the speed. I found that the XMR to ETH was approximately 0.076 ETH.
The Conversion Process
After comparing rates and considering the trade-offs, I decided to split my XMR conversion between Kraken and ChangeNOW. I used Kraken for the bulk of my transaction, taking advantage of the limit order functionality to get a slightly better price. I used ChangeNOW for a smaller amount, prioritizing speed and convenience.

- Kraken: I placed a limit order slightly above the current market price, hoping it would get filled quickly. It took about an hour, but my order was eventually executed.
- ChangeNOW: I entered the amount of XMR I wanted to convert and the ETH address where I wanted to receive the ETH. The conversion was processed within minutes.

Throughout this process, I kept a few things in mind:
- Fees: Both exchanges charged fees for the conversion. I factored these fees into my decision-making process.
- Slippage: With market orders, there’s always a risk of slippage, where the final price differs slightly from the quoted price. I tried to minimize this by using limit orders where possible.
- Security: I made sure to use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication on both exchanges.
Final Thoughts
Overall, my experience converting XMR to ETH was positive. I learned a lot about the different options available and how to find the best exchange rates.
